ROSE ASHTON

Rose Aston was born into a family of artists (her great-great-grandfather, Julian Ashton, was an English-born artist who founded the prestigious Ashton Art School in Australia, which the family still runs to this day). Her kin taught her the fundamentals of the craft: how to paint a line, how to blend color, how to create mood. But her affinity for tradition stops there: her wildly emotional paintings are more feeling than function, a product of her rare talent for finding beauty in everything—even a blank piece of paper (which she quickly fills up with riotous lines). Whether she’s modeling swimsuits in the African bush or splattering paint on the side of a building just to make someone smile, Ashton does everything with intent, passion and boldness— right down to the way she wears her socks.
